the first time lu ren and I had met was 5/23/24. we're almost at the anniversary, only closing in on a year—it feels like forever. I had been with julianne at a studio in eagle rock. she was still recording shit so I decided to see what syd was up to. they told me to come through to the last bookstore where they and a friend of their's would be moseying around.  you know who that friend was. they were wearing the fuzzy hat with the chunky boots.
we got boba before heading to syd's place in dtla. I don't remember what we did there. for a fact we played around with the cats, maybe partook in ridiculous activities. is the first time ever really memorable? it's an introduction to something greater. which by the way, I don't think three's a crowd at all.
the next few times we've seen each other are a bit out of order. I took photos of ren when they still had red in their hair. we would run into each other at syd's birthday party in beachwood canyon on the 4th of july. you should have seen them go go go. dancing, pure joy, pure love. I wish I was a dancer. only way to catch me shaking is if I'm blacked out, but then I don't get to remember the fun of it—so what's the point in that?
ren came over for photos at my friend's apartment whom I had been catsitting for. exquisite photos. it's just amazing the shit you can make with someone in whatever random spot with whatever clothes you can throw together, all because you just click after the first couple times. being able to communicate and bounce ideas back and forth. the talented makeup skills they bring to the table—fuck me it all came together so well. although I was kind of a dick for not telling my friends I was taking photos in their apartment until after I had posted the photos of ren on their floor, on their couch, and on their rug... oops!
when I had my unofficial residency at worklife studios we would take some more photos. I forgot what I had been doing that night—I think it was the same day I had been taking photos of an unnamed redhead and went to the bars with them in highland park. I didn't have a place to crash and all the transit options were closed so I had to last resort crash in the studio. I got back around 3am. ren was posting on their stories still. I hit them up, they replied, I ordered them an uber to come through and we had our 4am photoshoot that we barely had enough of a second-wind for. the fake blood even came out. ren fucking loves blood. like fucking hell, syd thinks I'm a vampire with the way I need to be invited into places but ren?! all that fake blood and you'd start to wonder where's the vials of the real stuff. I love them for that though. never a dull moment.
ren finally joined the archive on 5/9/25. heat exhaustion had me nearly completely out of it, I powered through though. can't quit so early when someone starts rubbing fake blood on them while wearing a bikini.
I've only known them for less than a year. I've loved seeing their creative growth in this span, I'm blessed to see the future strides they make. I'm lucky to have a collaborator with which we can make more ridiculous shit. with even more blood.
